PRACTITIONER’S CORNER

I am surrounded by lions.  Well, Leos, at any rate.  Leo is the

astrological sign that takes place from July 22 to August 22.  My

mother and my husband have birthdays this month. When he was younger,

my husband was a professional astrologer.  He showed people how to use

the stars as a roadmap and that they always had choices to make. My

mother and husband are both Mensans! Not only am I surrounded by

lions, but smart ones at that! This is a roaring good month for them!

When I was a little girl, I couldn’t wait to have a birthday and be

older and grown up.  Now, I’m just grateful for every day, and each

birthday is a special remembrance of how precious life is for me and

those I love.

My mother is 80 this year. She thinks she is old. She is very

youthful and healthy, yet all she can think about is the ‘number’  She

makes assumptions because of that number and declares herself old, with

this limitation and/or that limitation.

My mother doesn’t understand that she is one of my heroes. She was a

stay-at-home Mom, who had an urge to go back to school.  That is not a

big deal now, but it was then, especially since my Dad didn’t think

much of that idea. My mother had to do the work to finish high school

before she could even think about going to college.  It took years, but

she graduated college and became a high school teacher.  Without my

father’s support, and with two young girls and miles to travel to get

to school, my mother became the first person in her family to graduate

college. Her parents came here from Russia and never learned to speak

English very well. My mother doesn’t think much of her

accomplishments. She doesn’t

understand that I appreciate how fortunate I am that she is still here

and that we can share phone calls and moments together.  My birthday

wish for my mother is peace,

harmony and joy of living each day.

My husband has severe asthma, which can make each

breath a struggle. He once described asthma as his whole body being

depressed, with the lungs not having enough strength to move without

strong medication. He is one of the bravest people I know.  Every

movement that I take for granted, is a struggle for him. He moves

slowly, but he moves.  He is a very social ‘animal’, but because of the

heavy medicines, his nerves are almost always on edge, nervous system

‘jangles’ and breathing can affect him.  He ‘died’ during an asthmatic

episode and was’told’ he had to stay, even though that meant

incredible pain, but it just wasn’t time for him to leave. So, every

day, with every movement he keeps going, with love in his eyes, a smile

on his lips, from his heart, and a hug ready for anyone who is open to

hugs.  My birthday wish for my husband is accepting better health and

joy in his body and in his life.

Since we are spiritual beings, living in a spiritual universe,

governed by spiritual law, each day is a new opportunity to accept and

express our divinity and live our lives to the fullest.  With each day,

we make choices, change our minds and make new choices.  This is a gift

from God, along with being conscious.  So, in a way, everyday is

everyone’s birthday. My birthday wish for each of us is love, radiant,

vibrant health, joy and laughter.  In gratitude, I release these

thoughts to Mother God knowing they return to us fulfilled and running

over.  And, so it is.  Amen. Happy birthday; happy living!!
