Pastor's Pen
 Feasting or Fasting,
A wonderful celebration takes place at this time of year around the world.
This is the Harvest Feast, known in this country as Thanksgiving, a time
for
family, friends and food. Historically this holiday commemorates the first
successful harvest of the European colonists who settled in this country,
but the Science of Mind takes nothing at face value.
One of the core beliefs of Science of Mind (SOM) is that we reap what we
sow. This is certainly not a new concept, but it is usually restricted to
the physical results of our visible actions in the world. SOM expands this
idea and shifts the focus to the content of our consciousness as the
determinant of the nature of our experience. Rather than merely viewing
our actions as productive of specific results, we step back and view our
actions
as the result of our beliefs and work on our molding our consciousness to
embody the belief that would result in the desired outcome of the
experience. The “miraculous” aspect of this process is that we find that
not
only our actions, but the actions of the world around us are affected by
this change in consciousness. Why this is we do not know. Theories about
the
creative nature of Mind and the connection with Universal Mind make
interesting models, but they explain nothing. We are clearly dealing with a
phenomenon that does not lend itself to conventional analysis. The validity
of the concepts can be endlessly debated pro or con. But Ernest Holmes, the
founder of Religious Science, asked the question,

“Would you rather argue that it won't work or prove
that it will by enriching your life?

The choice is yours. The Law of Mind will support you in either position.”
This is the
meaning of the Eternal Harvest of Life and the Feast of Thanksgiving. The
seeds we sow and nurture in consciousness always bear fruit in the field of
experience. Thank the powers that be that this is so. For whether our lives
are happy or sad, frustrated or fulfilled, God-awful or glorious--the power
to bring about change rests solely within our consciousness. And that is
the
 wonderful truth about our teaching.
This month our talks will focus on creating a successful harvest. Meet me
in
 the field.
 With love,
 Reverend Patrick
